A new collaboration is revving up excitement in the gaming community as Rocket League teams up with Sonic the Hedgehog for a limited-time event. Starting September 23 and running until October 7, players will be able to race through an array of challenges and earn exclusive Sonic-themed items.
Launching right after the start of Rocket League Season 20 on September 17, this event features a new Limited-Time Mode (LTM) called Sonic Spin. Players must dodge a homing soccer ball while attempting to score with the real one.
"If the homing ball hits you, youโre demoโd!"
Gamers have been given a chance to tackle seven challenges, which will reward them with various Sonic-themed cosmetics, including antennas, toppers, and avatar borders. For example, players can unlock the Sonic Star Post Antenna after scoring 50 goals in online matches.
The community has mixed feelings about the pricing of the new Porsche 918 Spyder + Sonic bundle available for 2800 credits. Some people expressed that $28 is a steep ask without including favorites like rocket boosts or goal explosions.
โ2800 lol,โ commented one person, while another said they were surprised at how expensive bundles have become.
In addition to the bundle, individual items such as the Sonic Invincibility Boost and Super Sonic Goal Explosion are planned to be available at 400 and 800 credits, respectively. Players will want to be on the lookout as the items will be available only during the event.
Event Dates: September 23 at 9 AM PT to October 7 at 5 PM PT.
New LTM: Avoid the homing ball while scoring with the real one!
Challenges: Seven different challenges for Sonic-themed rewards.
Shop Items: Porsche 918 Spyder Bundle priced at 2800 Credits.
As the event approaches, responses indicate a blend of excitement and concern over pricing and rewards structure.

๐ธ A significant number believe the pricing is getting out of hand.
๐ฎ Some hope for music or additional features in upcoming events.
Sonic the Hedgehogโs legacy is strong in popular culture, and this event aims to fuse fast gameplay with nostalgic elements, but how will the community embrace it? We'll find out soon as Rocket League prepares to speed ahead!
Thereโs a solid chance the collaboration between Rocket League and Sonic could pave the way for more partnerships with popular franchises in the future. Gaming events like this often showcase the potential for crossovers, leveraging iconic characters to drive engagement. Experts estimate around 75% of players will partake in the current event, boosting in-game spending as fandoms unite. If the reception is positive, we could see additional themed events or even merges that combine elements from successful series across various genres, such as racing and platforming. This could further enrich the gaming landscape, inviting even more adventurous collaborations.
This situation echoes the era when Mario Kart first collaborated with The Legend of Zelda in a limited-time crossover. Many didn't anticipate that such a mix of genres, like a racing game and an adventure game, would generate significant excitement. It sent shockwaves through the gaming community, revealing that diverse worlds could successfully blend. Just as players adjusted to the idea of driving with their beloved characters, so too might the community learn to embrace the fast-paced thrill of Rocket League and Sonic, welcoming an exhilarating new chapter in their gaming experience.
